NFL trade rumors: 49ers, Chiefs agree to terms on Dee Ford deal

first_imgSounds like the #49ers will give Dee Ford a multi-year deal once the trade becomes official in the line of 5 years/$87.5M, per source. https://t.co/McLKKxheel— ig: josinaanderson (@JosinaAnderson) March 13, 2019With the firing of defensive coordinator Bob Sutton and subsequent hiring of Steve Spagnuolo, the Chiefs are moving from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 under the new regime. While Ford can play both, he excels as a pass-rushing outside linebacker which made the Chiefs explore a deal. The Chiefs and Niners have agreed to parameters on a deal that would send OLB Dee Ford to San Francisco for a 2020 second-round pick, per source.Ford’s camp will need to work out a contract with the Niners to complete it.— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) March 13, 2019The Chiefs placed the franchise tag on Ford last week, but they did so with the intention of looking for a trade partner for the 27-year-old linebacker. This deal will hinge on the 49ers’ ability to find a new contract for Ford.According to ESPN, San Francisco will give Ford a five-year, $87.5 million deal once the trade is completed. The interesting thing about a deal to the 49ers, though, is San Francisco also runs a 4-3 defense. However, with Ford’s ability to rush the passer, adding that kind of talent is clearly the priority for the 49ers. San Francisco does have a tendency to play five men on the line of scrimmage on defense, so Ford could be a good fit in that package.#49ers’ defense is actually a 5-2 that utilizes 3-4 personnel. Dee Ford would fit in nicely. On every snap they have 5 defenders on the LOS and 2 stacked LBs roaming behind that 5-man front. Ford can dial up the necessary heat off the edge.— Larry Krueger (@sportslarryknbr) March 13, 2019last_img read more
