Gulevich wins another science prize

first_imgBy Energeticcity.ca staff Fort St. John’s Kimberly Gulevich has won another major award, for her scientific research.- Advertisement -The grade 12 student at North Peace Secondary School has won the Ontario Science Centre’s 2010 Weston Youth Innovation Award, for using science and techonology to create solutions to real-world problems.Gulevich’s winning project, entitled “Got Gas?” explored the use of methane capture as a way to provide energy to small rural households that use sewage lagoons. She reportedly discovered that methane capture is a viable technology, but would be better suited to larger municipal and agricultural sewage lagoons.She will officially receive her national award at a ceremony at the Ontario Science Centre on Friday.As well as earning a $2,000 prize, Gulevich will be congratulated by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. She will then work with a multimedia team to create a short animation showcasing her project, which will be displayed at the Weston Family Innovation Centre, in Toronto.Advertisement Gulevich’s project earned acclaim at the recent Peace Region Science Fair, and will also be showcased at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair from May 9 – 15 in San Jose, California.last_img read more
