Tournament Central | Box Score The Lions piled on five runs in the fourth inning to propel them to a 7-0 win over No. 8 Sam Houston State on Tuesday in game three of the tournament. SLU will now take on No. 1 Nicholls at 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday while Sam Houston State will await the loser of game six in an elimination contest tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT. SLU’s Rachel Hayes allowed just four hits in a five-inning day, fanning seven and walking just one. Hayes now has a 16-8 record for the season. Southeastern knocked on the door in the first and second inning, stranding a runner at third in each of the innings. After not recording a hit in the third inning, the Lions produced five hits and five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Right fielder Ali McCoy singled through the left side to bring Peyton Sutton home, the Lions scored on the next two plays off catcher Ella Manzer’s RBI groundout and Madison Watson’s RBI double. SLU tacked on its fifth run with a single to left field from the bat of Maddie Edmonston that scored Jaquelyn Ramon. McCoy doubled down the right field line to score Carlie Whittington and make it 6-0 in the fifth. The Lions added an extra insurance run in the sixth. Southeastern finished the game with 10 hits and three multi-hit players in McCoy, second baseman Mahalia Gibson and designated player Mattie Ort.
